Elevate Arts presents its largest commissioned art piece to date: Liquid Truth. A new-media art project that is leitmotifically dedicated to an ancient way of speaking. There it was said: truth is the daughter of time.
In the form of a generative data sculpture that intercepts Twitter hashtags of #fake and #truth in real time, this idea is brought into the hyper-accelerated present – and exhibited on the clock tower of Graz which was constructed in the 13th century. Following the historical extension of the dial, a digital second hand is now being added to the clock tower. It is intended to make visible the fast-moving nature of the discourse of truth in the digital age. It is possible to interact with the sculpture on site by tweeting the respective hashtags. In addition, it dissolves the boundaries of digital and physical space – and lives on beyond the festival: as a digital data sculpture on the internet, it continues to draw from real-time data. Constantly transforming, it consequently reflects the discourse of truth into digital infinity.
The Graz clock tower itself also acts as a protagonist: at every chime of the bell, it tweets truth statistics under @Uhrturm_Graz. Follow me!
This project is realized with the interaction studio schnellebuntebilder (DE), which has previously collaborated with such greats as ART+COM, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and Refik Anadol, as well as the design studio Knoth & Renner (DE) in collaboration with Elevate Arts curator Berit Gilma (AT).
„Liquid Truth“ is a cooperation with KIÖR – Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Steiermark and is part of Re-Imagine Europe, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
