In the context of the annual Présences électronique Festival, and within the framework of Re-Imagine Europe Ina GRM offers a studio residency to European based artists. The residency presents the artists with an opportunity to explore GRM’s special devices, technologies and compositional knowledge. For 2018 Ina GRM invited Sweden based artist John Chantler to work with the new version of the Coupigny Synthesizer, the legendary synth created in late 60’s at GRM studio. The residency provides transnational working opportunities for the artist. It also facilitates exchange and dialogue between science (modular synthesis technics and philosophy), and the general public through the production of an audiovisual documentation linked to the creative process and techniques of modular synthesis.

The final outcome of the residency was a new piece performed in concert as well as video documentation dealing with modular synthesis. John Chantler also presented the new piece also in other events organized by the partners of Re-Imagine Europe.
