Re-Imagine Europe (2017-2021) is a collaboration of 10 European cultural organisations that develop, produce, present and distribute new cutting-edge art that addresses the social and political challenges we face today. Rising nationalism, climate change and migration are pushing European countries apart, while technological advances continue to change the ways that we interact, urging us to explore new modes of operation.
With a programme of residencies, commissions, symposia and workshops, the project partners of Re-Imagine Europe stimulate both artistic production and audience development in the field where art, music, technology and politics meet. Re-Imagine Europe creates opportunities for artists via residencies and the co-commissioning of new work. It engages audiences, develops their skills through workshops and symposia, and builds communities of interest. Through presenting and disseminating artworks across Europe, as well as through publishing critical content, the project contributes to transnational mobility and the exchange of knowledge. It also experiments with new ways of reaching audiences, motivated by the ambition to develop a broader and more engaging approach to audience development and capacity building.
By the end of 2021, the project will have resulted in:
• 59 artist residencies in Europe
• presentation and touring showcases of 108 new commissioned works across Europe
• 86 workshops for artists, young people and curious audiences
• 275 digital releases such as podcasts, articles, videos and soundworks
• several printed and online publications
• a series of pilot projects as part of embedded audience development research
Re-Imagine Europe is initiated by Sonic Acts (NL), coordinated by Paradiso (NL) and realised with Elevate Festival (AT), Lighthouse (UK), INA GRM (FR), Kontejner (HR), Bergen Kunsthall (NO), A4 (SK), Disruption Network Lab (DE) and Ràdio Web MACBA (ES).
