Spektrum hosts the second event in their Sonic Vibrations series. Under the title Music and Mathematics, three artists (Liz Allbee, Alberto de Campo & Hannes Hoelzl) give the audience fresh insights into new musical instruments and the constitutive importance of number in music.

Inner structures in sound relate to fundamental frequencies and their harmonics; micro-tonalities and dissonances unfold the logarithmic nature of music. These are the tools that artists use to decompose and recompose models of sound by means of analog and digital technologies, with the intent to explore new possibilities of responsive systems (deep learning, behavioural software interaction, spatial sound). The audience gets to know more about how to apply such technologies in art through an introductory lecture followed by a performance.
