The sixth chapter of the Spektrum’s Sonic Vibrations series presents music projects that involve robotics. These include elements like moving sound sources, mechanically controlled parts and computed synchronisations. Seth Horvitz’s project Eight Studies for Automatic Piano for instance, makes use of a simple computerised compositional process to test the limits of human perception and machine precision by creating an immersive concert setting without the presence of a human performer. Ultimately, the event series intends to push cross-disciplinary boundaries between technology and science.
