The workshop explores subjectivity and narrative in critical writing as ways of challenging on the one hand, the notion of objectivity, and on the other hand “the illusion of the single mentality”. The latter definition belongs to the legendary writer and cultural critic Jill Johnston and refers to the idea that anyone’s subject position may be stable and self-contained.
Participants of the workshop were recruited through an open call. With writing exercises, discussions, and collective readings, the workshop builds on a critical approach to writing as a cultural practice and focus on the critic’s role as an independent voice in the social debate.
