Phoebe Collings-James
Phoebe Collings-James (UK) is an artist whose works take form primarily in sculpture, sound and drawing with a distinctly corporeal approach. She attempts to burden ubiquitous materials with a process of symbolic layering in order to explore emotional connections to the politics and erotics of violence, language and fear. Her recent works have been dealing with the object as subject, giving life and tension to ceramic forms. Her recent collaboration with Jamila Johnson-Small resulted in a commissioned performance at Wysing Arts Centre (UK) that asks the question of what an anti-assimilationist practice might look and sound like in 2018, titled “Sound as Weapon, Sounds 4 for Survival”. Collings-James’ exhibitions have taken place in the United States, the UK, Mexico, and France.
