Rosa Menkman

Rosa Menkman

Rosa Menkman (NL) is an artist, curator, and researcher whose work focuses on noise artifacts produced from accidents in both analogue and digital media (such as glitch, encoding, compressions, feedback, and other forms of noise). Although many people perceive these accidents as negative experiences, Menkman emphasizes their positive consequences. By combining both her practical as well as her academic background, Menkman merges her abstract pieces within a grand theory of artifacts (glitch studies). She wrote the “Glitch Moment/um” (2011), a book on the exploitation and popularization of glitch artifacts, and since 2012 she has been curating exhibitions and events for various festivals. She is currently a Vertretungsprofessur of New Media and Visual Communication at Kunsthochschule Kassel.
