A performance and text work staged on and for a treasured family heirloom. The text is the result of the artist’s extended research into symbolic and exchange value, personal stories of market relations, and political histories of the region, merged with the stories of their parents in relation to significant historical moments.
These characteristics are embodied in a sentimental piece of family property—a carpet her mother won at a casino while pregnant with Ieva. This work is a reminiscence of the dystopian times of scarcity in 1990s Lithuania, as the country experimented with the value of goods, property, and laws.
The reading takes place on this carpet, brightly lit, borrowed from the artist’s family home.
