ILYICH

ILYICH, also known as Anton Kats, is a musician, artist, and educator from Kherson, Ukraine. Their work spans sound, performance, film, and radio, shaped by questions of listening, displacement, and sonic antifascism.

Working musically under the name ILYICH – a patronymic middle name that was removed from Kats’ identity documents during the asylum process in Germany in the early 2000s – they move across clubs, theatres, festivals, and exhibition spaces. Their projects have been presented at documenta 14, Roskilde Festival, Sonic Acts, SAVVY Contemporary, Sophiensæle, Serpentine Galleries, Tate Modern, and H.K.W. Berlin, among others.

ILYICH hosts the Listening Hymns series on Refuge Worldwide Radio and is Associate Professor of Sonic and Listening Practices at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
