Amber Ablett & Touki – Reclaiming Narratives
a workshop on racialised fatherhood
Borealis Festival 2024 presents:
Revolutionary art collective Touki and artist Amber Ablett lead a writing and thinking workshop about fatherhood from the perspective of their children. Whilst media and news often repeats strong and present western and European white supremacist narratives about men of colour relating to fatherhood, this workshop will make space to creatively acknowledge the weight of these oppressive narratives and share the breadth of our stories and experiences that cannot be condensed into a single racist trope.
The workshop is open to BIPOC and all who understand and have experienced the racial demonising of fathers. Through collective poetry exercises and conversation we will explore and celebrate together the multitude of reasons why a father might be absent.
Presented in collaboration with Touki.
