Within the ambit of the Car Crash exhibition, PAV’s Educational and Training Activities propose to schools and groups an articulated programme of activities entirely dedicated to the methodological research and works of Piero Gilardi.

Families and visitors can book every second Sunday of the month for a special visit to Gilardi’s interactive Biome itinerary which is followed by the activation of his didactic work Puzzle-natura Marina delle Canarie (2015, 53 items in expanded polyurethane, lactic rubber and willow baskets). This is an interactive visit and activity that questions, through an artificial recreation of nature, the responsibilities of human beings and the neo-liberal model towards the ecological and climate crisis. ‘To choose the subjects of the carpets I look into the collective subconscious and childhood memories” (From the catalogue of Gilardi’s solo exhibition at Galleria Sperone in Turin, 1966).

Through an artificial recreation, the nature becomes domesticated and tamed, an indoor nature that the viewer can enjoy in art institutions and in their own flats. The public is encouraged to stomp on, inhabit and move through these natural yet artificial environments, regaining a relationship with an ideal of nature that is no longer viable in post-Fordist society. Which is our relation with nature? Can we move forward the idealization of it?
