The Muddy Muddy Mystery Tour – workshop hosted by Cocky Eek
Mud sensing and listening, and other muddy mysteries were revealed on a field trip and low-tech workshop hosted by artist Cocky Eek on Sunday 10 March in Het Lage Noorden in Marrum, Friesland.
Cocky Eek conducted a ‘quick and dirty’, low-tech workshop to create mud listening and sensing devices – a unique opportunity for an in-depth encounter with the saltmarshes of Marrum. Under the guidance of a local mud guide and equipped with our handmade devices, participants visited the area around the villages of Moddergat and Paezens – to listen in, to, and with the tidal landscape.
Impressions of the field experiments and recordings were then interwoven with a festive thematic dinner at Het Lage Noorden in Marrum. The dinner was followed by research presentations from 12 students from the ArtScience Interfaculty who tapped into the local rhythms and orbital planetary bodies in the night skies during a course led by Cocky Eek in 2023–2024.
