Alina Schmuch

Alina Schmuch is a german artist whose work is based on photography and its extension in the medium of film. She uses artist’s books and video installations to investigate the interaction between the visual medium and reality.

Schmuch studied Media Arts at the HfG Karlsruhe and was a fellow of the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. Her work has been presented internationally in exhibitions and screenings including: Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (2023), Urbane Künste Ruhr (2022), Akademie der Künste (Berlin 2022), Bureau Europa (Maastricht 2019), Künstlerhaus Bremen (2018), MAK-Center (Los Angeles 2017), ZKM (Karlsruhe, 2016) and together with Forensic Architecture at the 15th Architecture Biennale in Venice (2016). Among other awards she received the Visual Arts work stipend of the Berlin Senate 2022, the 27th Bremen Award for Video Art in 2021, the MAK Schindler Scholarship Los Angeles 2017. At the moment she is part of the artistic research program Hydromedia and was selected for the Rupert x Sonic Acts ALTERLIFE residency.
