Juan Arturo García

Juan Arturo García

Originally from Mexico City, Juan Arturo García lives in Amsterdam. His research delves into the historical production of scientific knowledge in Latin America.
He particularly focuses on the intricate interplay of complex, technical, cultural, mystical, and political desires, exploring their deployment and understanding their consequences. García’s fascination with translation extends beyond linguistics to encompass the geometric and geographic too. His interest lies not solely in transitioning between languages but also in translating concepts, people, or ideas from one part of the world to another. By deliberately creating ‘friction’ between these dual or divergent understandings of translation, he seeks to uncover the ‘collateral damage’ inherent in such movements.
García has attended a post-academic research residency at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, received an MA in Film, Design and Politics from the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam and a BA in Visual Communication from Mexico City’s Centro de Diseño, Cine y Televisión.
