Amber Ablett – first part of My Fathers Left at Borealis 2023
Borealis commissions Irish artist Amber Ablett, tackling the idea, misconceptions, and stigma of Black fatherhood in a cross-cultural European context.
Created from audio conversations with fellow mixed-heritage Europeans, in “My Fathers Left” Ablett explores the how fatherhood, and prejudice around black fatherhood is experienced, by those who are fathers, with fathers that are present, and fathers that are absent. The work will initially exist as a 5 minute, four channel audio prologue, and be developed through residencies and workshops over 2023/4 into an exhibition format.
At Borealis Festival 2023 , a 5-minute prologue of the work is shown.
At Borealis Festival 2024, the full length version of the work will be presented.
