Workshop

In a technologically perfect world of infinite possibilities, materiality brings a way of grounding and orientation. The tangibility of materials and their limits can allow us to be present and attentive to the sensory world around us, to be patient with mistakes and differences and generally accept imperfection and collaboration as part of reality.

In this workshop we will explore the sonic forms of materials and shapes. We will analyze and empirically experience their acoustic specificities and build a resonant diy electro-acoustic instrument from the materials you bring to improvise on together.

The workshop will last 3 to 4 hours and is suitable for all the curious from 9 years old.

Bring material that you are interested in how it sounds and resonates – there are no limits to size and shape, but we are best served by volumes up to 1cm thick maximum.

Manka Lustigová (she/her) *1998 is Pardubice-based visual artist. In her artistic practice she focuses on acoustics of ceramic materials, practice-based material research and the topic of connections. The artifacts in her hands explore the boundary between the living and the inanimate. She enjoys building sound installations, musical instruments and diy.

She graduated from the ceramic design studio of doc. MgA. Gabriel Vach at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (2024). She is a member of the collective Trať (2018), which deals with the revival of dilapidated railway buildings and organizes multi-genre art events. Together with Veronika Zálešáková, she is the founder of the ceramic studio Kopřivald (2021).
