Performance

In this audiovisual performance, Nasim Mashak listens to the invisible cargo of displacement, the weight of sounds that cross borders, resist erasure, and carry fragments of home. Through rhythm, storytelling, and the echoes of lived experience, she invites us to hear how sound itself migrates, bends, and survives.

Have you heard how a travelling suitcase, held by migrating hands, sounds?
What does it contain? Not only the shifting of clothes and objects, but the sound of memories. Sounds powerful enough to teleport one in time. Sounds vast enough to fill the emptiness of leaving and being left, or to recreate a portable home.

These are sounds that weigh a life lived. Sounds smuggled through digital weight and border control. A suitcase heavier than it seems, exceeding the limits of any airline law of travel. Luggage carried by empty hands, resting in the grip of my own shadow, at times the only one who follows me.

Sounds migrate as people do. They travel until something stops them: a wall, a mountain, swallowed by sea waves, or broken by geographical borders. Some frequencies die on impact. Others bend, echo, and find another path. People move like that too, scattered, delayed, remade, yet carrying seeds of memory, rhythms of survival, and the magnitude of resistance.

Nasim Mashak
Nasim Mashak, also known as Daeva, is an Oslo-based artist and DJ born in Iran. Moving between sound and story, she curates gatherings where memory, rhythm, and resistance converge, where something forgotten finds its way back. From the decks to the carpet bazaar, Nasim weaves voices together through a whispering poem, a shared cup of safrante, or the echo of footsteps across woven histories. Nasim Mashak is the curator of the annual Bazaar of Woven Tales installation at Melahuset and the monthly 1001 Sound club concept at Dattera til Hagen.
