Performance

During the captivating culmination of the Spatial Sound Workshop, the ten participants, led by artist and professor at Royal Conservatory Sonology Department Ji Youn Kang, showcased their collective pieces and installations. Extending beyond physical boundaries and incorporating online realms, the participants shared their discoveries on audio feedback, ambience, and the relationship between spatial trajectories and sound phenomena. This event promised to be a sensory feast, where space itself is transformed into an unconventional musical instrument.

At the crossroads of art, technology, and innovation, this platform aims to engage listeners in redefining their perception of spatial sound.

Furthering Sonic Acts’ 30-year-long adventures in spatial sound and image, the online platform will host iconic works from the Sonic Acts archive, newly commissioned pieces, and provide online access to live multi-channel performances happening during and after the Sonic Acts Biennial. All multi-channel works will be (re)designed for headphones or sound systems with built-in spatial sound technology, so that the audience can experience the works in their own environment as if they were in the concert hall with the artists. The official launch of the SSP was presented by artist Ji Youn Kang at Zone2Source on the opening weekend of the Biennial, on Friday 2 Febraury 2024. The presentation was followed by 9 ‘Listening Room’ programmes repeated throughout the festival, concerts, and talks to begin the SSP.
