So that the Shipwreck Does Not Occur – Workshop with Marcelo Expòsito

So that the Shipwreck Does Not Occur was a workshop that explored the relationship between social revolution, subjective states of mind and the environment as a space of human coexistence.
The workshop So that the Shipwreck Does Not Occur was inspired by the herbaria made by Rosa Luxemburg while she was imprisoned. She made these at the same time as she wrote political essays, militant agitprop, and personal letters which show her interest in the relationship between social revolution, subjective states of mind, and the environment as a space of human coexistence. During the workshop participants were invited to bring to the table theories through which we can interpret contemporary crises, and – in reference to the herbaria of Rosa Luxemburg – to reflect on these using diagrammatic writing as a tool to imagine hope.
The workshop was conceived in the context of the exhibition Dissent Machines. From Social Forum to Climate Justice a double solo show by Marcelo Expósito and Oliver Ressler which took place on 4 & 5 May 2023.
Marcelo Expósito (ES) is an artist and cultural critic. His works investigate the development of the post-Fordist city during the long cycle of neoliberal globalisation, highlighting the relationships between the current systemic crisis and the emergence of new political subjectivities.
