What’s Art got to do with it? Panel at Elevate 2024
This panel discusses and examines different approaches and strategies employed by artists and collectives who consider their practice to be political.
On the one hand, successful campaigns will be discussed and illustrated, while on the other hand, the limits of what is feasible and possible regarding art as a political catalyst will be critically examined. This discussion takes place against the backdrop of an increasing pressure to declare positions regarding current geopolitical conflicts, which significantly affects artists and is intertwined with questions of their own positioning.
Delving into this conversation are: Milo Rau, Swiss director, (theater) author, essayist, and artistic director of the Wiener Festwochen with his latest book, “Die Rückeroberung der Zukunft: Ein Essay”, Cesy Leonard, German performance artist, filmmaker, and founder of Radikale Töchter, and Veronika Nad, an anthropologist from Disruption Network Lab in Berlin. Moderation will be conducted by Gersin Livia Paya, filmmaker and journalist at FM4.
