Sonic Acts Biennial 2024 – Exhibition

W139 & Looiersgracht, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
February & March 2024, Sonic Acts Biennial

‘The Spell of the Sensuous’ – a large group exhibition programme, part of the Sonic Acts Biennial 2024 – was presented across two locations in the centre of Amsterdam: W139 and Looiersgracht 60. This video compilation features footage from both gallery openings, interwoven with glimpses of the archival and research-based works, tactile sculptures, videos, and installations. It also includes snippets of interviews with artists Annika Kappner and Lukas Marxt, performances by Brackish Collective, and a concert by sound artist and musician Aimée Theriot.

Inspired by David Abram’s seminal 1996 book of the same name, the Sonic Acts Biennial Exhibition 2024 explored the fluid, porous boundaries between the human and more-than-human, embracing multiple modes of sensing – intuition, speculation, and embodiment. Through the ‘sensuous body’, the artists echoed and gave form to the ongoing environmental crisis, evoking our deep-rooted connection to the larger ecology of earth beings.

With works by Harun Morrison, Natasha Tontey, Jota Mombaça, Pedro Matias, Brackish Collective, Sasha Litvintseva and Beny Wagner, Annika Kappner, Lukas Marxt, Anika Schwarzlose and Elena Khurtova, touche—touche.
