Hugo Esquinca and Russell Haswell – CADAVER EXQUISITO # 4 Video Report at SAB 2024

Muziekgebouw, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
24 February 2024, Sonic Acts Biennial
Seemingly chaotic, distorted, and random, the collaborative body of work by artists-musicians Hugo Esquinca and Russell Haswell emerges from a rigorous exploration of the fringes of sound, production, and methodologies such as call and response, culminating in multisensory experiences. During the Sonic Acts Biennial, they premiered the fourth iteration of their sound piece ‘Cadáver Exquisito’, blending sound, light, and objects in a unique performance space – the loading dock of the Muziekgebouw music hall.
Expanding on the methods developed in their previous collaborations, which span radio, installations, live performances, and recorded media, ‘Cadáver Exquisito #4’ unfolded in this unexpected industrial setting, inviting the audience to explore a site-specific, multisensory kinetic environment. ‘Cadáver Exquisito #4’ was commissioned as part of New Perspectives for Action, a project by Re-Imagine Europe, co-funded by the European Union.
